Keep safe in rapid response cars

RRV with blue lights

A member of frontline staff was recently stopped by a group of young people crossing a road who became abusive and opened the front passenger door, which was unlocked. Fortunately the driver was able to pull away, although some items of kit fell out of the vehicle. After the member of staff stopped further up the road to telephone the control room, the youth attempted to get into the vehicle once more, but fortunately the door was then locked.

Please be extra vigilant and drive with your car locked especially when driving through towns. If you are stopped at traffic lights and asked for help, keep your engine running and wind the window down a little in order to gauge the situation before you react.  If you are in any doubt as to whether the request for help is genuine, drive to a safe place and contact the control room.
