Major milestones for volunteers in Beds and Herts

Leighton Buzzard’s community first responders (CFRs) were flying the flag for our volunteers last month as they visited 10 Downing Street for a reception with the Prime Minister.

The group received the invite as thanks from local MP and fellow CFR Andrew Selous, and during the 23^rd November reception they were able to talk directly with central Government figures about the roles of CFRs within EEAST.

Coordinator Stephen Bennett said: “I felt very privileged to have the opportunity to promote the CFR role to leading figures in Government. The team have worked so hard over the last few years and it is fantastic to receive recognition for what we do; my thanks go to Andrew Selous for supporting our invite.”

Meanwhile in Hertfordshire, the CFR network has received one final boost before the new year with nine new recruits who passed their training last weekend.

In total, more than 60 new recruits have begun in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire alone this year.

Community Partnership Training Officer Simon Marshall said: “The group were of an exceptionally high standard in both written and practical assessments; I'm certain these new volunteers will go on to be great ambassadors for the Trust and make a real difference within their communities."

Following the positive CFR news throughout the area, Locality Director Dave Fountain said: “It is a huge boost for all staff in the locality to know that more and more CFRs are on hand ready to provide crucial basic life support. My thanks go to all volunteers and staff alike who have worked tirelessly to achieve such fantastic standards.”
