Making a difference together

EEAST RRVs and amb on scene

The Trust has developed a comprehensive leadership strategy based on four key themes of compassionate and systems leadership, improvement methods and talent management.

Developing our leaders to support successful collaboration and the ability to make system wide change is a fundamental part of that strategy.

We are pleased to announce that in support of our strategy the ‘Making a Difference Together’ leadership development programme is being piloted on behalf of the three emergency services in Essex.  The programme launched on the 17th May and was hosted by Essex Fire, at Kelvedon Park, Essex and opened by Adam Eckley, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, who gave a warm welcome to all three organisations.

The purpose of this programme is:

  • To bring first line managers together to consider leadership and management topics in a shared context
  • To increase individuals’ self-awareness
  • To develop understanding of all three Services and think through issues from a citizen’s perspective

Staff from EEAST, Essex Fire & Essex & Kent Police will be developing their own self-awareness as well as focusing on key areas that are important to all three organisations, namely:

  • Understanding Culture
  • Leadership & Management Styles including Command & Control
  • Systems Leadership

Feedback from the first day was very positive, delegates worked collaboratively in triads and commenced exploring the different cultures within each of their organisations, identifying the similarities, what works well and what doesn’t and why.

The three month programme will finish with a presentation to Senior Officers from each organisation identifying the commonalities and where they feel we could explore and further develop collaborative opportunities between the organisations.

Should the programme prove successful and of value to our people the pilot may be developed within other areas of the region with our Fire and Police Partners.
