MP to be a CFR following visit

Andrew Selous MP with Trust staff

Andrew Selous, MP for south west Bedfordshire, has agreed to volunteer for the ambulance service following his visit to Leighton Buzzard station on Tuesday (7th October).

Mr Selous spent time with an ambulance crew and community first responder (CFR) along with members of the local management team and is also going on a rideout today (Thursday 9th October).

After practising CPR with CFR Dominic and ambulance crew member Diane, Mr Selous agreed to take on CFR training to respond to emergency calls where he lives.

Senior Locality Manager, Simon King said: “Andrew’s visit went really well and it was a great opportunity to explain the service and the challenges we face to an MP. He discussed issues and exchanged ideas with the staff and volunteers and it great news that he has agreed to be a CFR and to promote this role across the community.  We look forward to welcoming him to the team.”

Andrew added: “I have been so impressed by the work of the community first responders that I have decided to join them.  My first aid knowledge is a little rusty since I was taught as a territorial soldier but I am looking forward to my training. It was great to talk to our local ambulance crews and to see the ambulances now permanently stationed in Leighton Buzzard.”
