MPDS code review

Call handler HEOC

All MPDS codes which are generated through ProQA (the call coding system we use in HEOC) are currently being clinically reviewed as part of the Trust’s ongoing commitment to ensure the most appropriate response is given to patients.

Medical Director Scott Turner and Director of Patient Safety and Clinical Standards John Martin are part of the group, as well as clinical co-ordinators from HEOC.

This process has started already; code 10-D-05 is classed as a patient complaining of chest pain with either nausea or vomiting. Through concerns raised via Datix reports and serious incident investigations this has been changed from a Green2 to a Red2 response.

Some of our recent recommendations have been taken forward nationally by the Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch and changes to the ProQA have been made as a result.

If staff wish to report any concerns with codes, it should still be done via Datix. Further updates and changes to codes will be announced in Need to Know.
