New, changed and removed medications for ECPs: latest guidelines published

Paramedic reading clinical manual

Our specialist practitioners will be able to administer new medications for patients this month following the revision of our patient group directions (PGDs).

The suite has been developed by a working group of staff and pharmacy advisors using the latest clinical evidence and guidance.

It includes new medication, changes to existing ones and where appropriate, removals from the approved drug list.

Please be aware it is the responsibility of the individual clinician to ensure they are competent to use these medications, especially around assessment and knowledge of conditions. All specialist practitioners in primary care, formally known as ECPs, should have received a letter and supporting document explaining the changes and the new suite is also available on East24.

In order to use these PGDs you will need to ensure that the suite has been signed by yourself and authorised by your line manager. This should be completed by the 19th September.

If you have any questions, please contact your line manager in the first instance.
