New developments from the communications team

After 82% of staff said they would use a rolling news site in last year’s internal communications survey, Need to Know will be changing from an ezine to a new website later this month. The website is a bespoke design for EEAST and is in the same style as other news sites such as BBC News and Channel 4 news. It will be available on your smartphone, Toughbook and from Trust and your home computer and will be the one source for all internal news, also replacing In Touch. An email will still be sent on Thursday with links to news articles and a précised PDF will be sent to managers to print on stations.

The media team have been linking in with operations staff to proactively promote interesting incidents on the Trust website and on the incidents Twitter feed. Recent good news includes a story about a family who met a call handler to thank her for her help in delivering their breech baby, an update on the ECA to EMT course, and the tale of a pilot who had a heart attack while flying a plane before going into cardiac arrest.

The first issues of the new county newsletter for stakeholders were issued this week in Bedfordshire and Norfolk. The newsletter goes to MPs, health overview and scrutiny committee, local authorities, hospitals, other emergency services, Healthwatch and community groups. It contains the specific news for that county and is available on the Trust website. Newsletters for Cambridgeshire and Suffolk are scheduled for this month and Essex and Hertfordshire in April.

The Trust’s digital channels continue to thrive in popularity, with nearly 7,000 people following the official Twitter account and nearly 2,300 likes on Facebook. The external website had 31,000 unique visitors in February and the student paramedic blog Lights, Sirens and Assignments, which was launched in January, has been viewed as far as the USA and Australia. Pictures on the Trust’s Flickr account have been looked at 45,000 times and one of the most popular is of a patient meet-up.

A huge thank you to all of our colleagues who have told us their good news and their unusual or noteworthy incidents – please keep them coming by emailing communications@eastamb.nhs.uk or calling 01954 712471.
