New PGD for paramedics: sign yours today

RRV with blurred paramedic

This month our paramedic patient group direction (PGD), which details what drugs paramedics are able to give, was updated.

If you’re a paramedic, please remember to sign a copy of the PGD by Friday, 1st April.

Every paramedic has to sign a copy for the Trust to say that they feel confident in supplying and administering the medicines listed in it.

Senior locality managers have been sent a copy of the PGD to share with their staff, but if you’d prefer you can download a copy here, sign it and take it to your line manager directly for approval.

What’s changed?

One important change is around the administration for tranexamic acid:

Administer slowly as an IV bolus over 1-2 minutes. Give a 20ml flush after administration and monitor blood pressure carefully for possible hypotensive response, giving appropriate fluid challenges where necessary to maintain perfusion pressure.

Please refer to your clinical practice guidelines (JRCALC) for dosage details, including those for children under 12.

Please make sure to sign the PGD suite as soon as you can.
