NHS.net downtime Friday 18th April

Hands typing on keyboard

NHSmail support will be carrying out maintenance work tomorrow (Friday 18th April) on all nhs.net mailboxes.

How will this affect you?

  • For five minutes between 6pm on Friday 18th April, and 6am on Saturday 19th April, you will be unable to access your nhs.net mailbox and no mail will be delivered.  We cannot specify the exact five minute period that your mailbox will be unavailable.
  • If you are logged into your mailbox when the move starts you will be disconnected for five minutes and will need to log back in.
  • After the move, any items that you had emptied from your ‘deleted items’ folder before 6pm on Friday 18th April, will not be recoverable.
  • Items that remain in the ‘deleted items’ folder at the time of the move will not be lost.

What do you need to do?

  • Before 6pm tomorrow, check whether you want to recover any items you had previously emptied from your ‘deleted items’ folder.  To recover items you had previously emptied please follow the instructions below, otherwise these items will be permanently deleted.

Recovering items emptied from the Deleted Items folder:

1.  Log into your account at www.nhs.net
2.  In your mailbox click on ‘options’ (top right, next to your mailbox name), then click 'deleted items' (left hand menu)
3.  In the 'recover deleted items' list, select the items you want to keep
4.  Click ‘recover to deleted items folder’ to recover the item

The items will moved back to your ‘deleted items’ folder and you can then move or copy them to other folders if you want to. Once the move of your mailbox has been completed, you can use NHSmail as normal.

Active and inactive accounts

NHSMail has updated its policy which specifies how long it will keep an inactive account.

  • Accounts are classified as ‘active’ if they remain in use; this means that the password on the account must have been changed within the last 90 days.
  • Accounts that do not have a password changed in the 90 day period are classified as ‘inactive’ and will be retained for six months, after which they will be deleted. Accounts falling into this category will not be recoverable.
  • Generic mailboxes will be removed after six months of inactivity.

Please note that once an account has been deleted the email address will become unavailable and data within the accounts will be deleted. Neither the email account nor the data it contained will be available for restore.

Please note that this work and changes are being carried out by the NHSMail Service and not by the Trust. If you have any further questions please contact the NHSMail Helpdesk on: 0333 200 1133 or email helpdesk@nhs.net.
