Pre-filled syringes

Clinical kit pic

The Trust is rolling out pre-filled syringes with needles for adrenaline 1:1,000. These will become visible in drug bags over the next two weeks and is to help remove the risk of inappropriate IV administration. In order to support this, the existing ampoules will be removed. On that basis all individuals who may have personally stocked medicines need to return them as this is not within the Trust’s medicine management policy. There is a risk if these are not removed from circulation so an amnesty will be held in April.

Further information can be found in the clinical bulletin on East24 and from home. As a note for paediatric doses then the syringe is graduated at 0.1ml, for the 0.15ml then this can be reasonably estimated. Repeat doses can be provided based on reassessment of the patient.
