Sales reps: what should you do if you’re approached?

Whether it’s a knock on the door, a phonecall or even getting stopped in the street – we’ve all experienced ‘sales patter’ at one time or another.

But what should you do if you’re approached by a sales representative at work?

NHS Protect has highlighted recent cases where sales reps have approached NHS staff, mainly at hospitals; usually, the companies are selling display screens  or appointment cards that they describe as ‘free’. Some staff have been persuaded to enter into agreements with these companies on behalf of their employer. The display screens have then been used for advertising, over which the hospital or trust has no control.

Please be aware that if you’re approached by a sales rep (of any kind) that wants to sell something to the ambulance service, you need to refer them to our procurement department who can be reached at procurement@eastamb.nhs.uk or on 01234 243123. They will be able to review and negotiate any potential arrangements on behalf of the Trust.

If you have any queries or concerns, please contact procurement using the details above or speak to your line manager.
