Saving money and reinvesting in patient facing services

Side of RRV with lozenge

As a Trust we get given a set amount of money every year form our clinical commissioning groups , the people who decide how taxpayers’ money is going to be spent on NHS services in their local area. We then have to decide how we spend that to provide the best possible service to patients.

Over the last couple of years we have been reinvesting money into frontline staffing, vehicles and equipment from money we have saved elsewhere in the Trust, such as support services, better procurement and so on.  However, we can all do our bit to help make small savings which in the grander scheme of things will add up to larger sums of money which we can use to improve our patient facing resourcing.

One example of this is the amount of money we spend on claims following one of our vehicles having hit a property, another parked vehicle or through reversing accidents. Over the last four years we have spent more than £2 million on such claims - that’s over £38,000 every month. And we have the third highest spend in this area across all ambulance services.

Please take care when you are reversing, driving or manoeuvring a Trust vehicle. Follow these simple steps and help us be safe, spend less money on claims and enable us to invest these savings in patient facing services.
