Spinal immobilisation: long boards, scoops and c-spine collars

Blurred ambulance

This week we’ve released a clinical update covering the management of spinal immobilisation; including the use of long boards, scoops (orthopaedic stretcher) and c-spine collars, and the preferred methods for extrication of suspected c-spine injured patients.

It follows the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) updating its guidelines in relation to the assessment and initial management of spinal injuries, and the subsequent consensus statement released from the faculty of pre-hospital care relating to pre-hospital immobilisation.

Please take the time to read the full clinical update, which you can download here from our clinical library on East24 (accessible from a Trust computer only).
