Success at the fest

Ambulance service staff turned out in force to help look after music fans at this year’s V Festival, which took place over the weekend.

Thousands of festival-goers headed to Hylands Park, Chelmsford, for the three day event – and our staff were needed to help 303 of them over the course of the event (not including those seen at first aid points across the site). Complaints ranged from broken ankles and chest pain to an over indulgence of alcohol, but just 19 needed onward transport to hospital.

Executive Officer Jon Moore said: “I'm really pleased that we saw fewer casualties than in the previous year (550) so we hope that more people followed our advice.

“Medical staff treated more than 800 people as we worked closely with colleagues from the St John Ambulance Service, the on-site pharmacy and other emergency colleagues to ensure people got the help they needed, and in many cases could continue to enjoy the event.”

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh added: “It was a very successful event and I’m very impressed with how well it was managed by our service. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in this event including the operational, control and support staff.”
