Suffolk co-response scheme launches with fire service

Ambulance and fire services

Today (21st October) sees the launch a new co-responding pilot with Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service that will bolster our response to our most seriously ill patients in the county.

Earlier this year, we started to team up with the region’s six fire services for a pilot that allows us to dispatch the them as a response to Red 1 cardiac arrest calls.

The fire teams will be dispatched in addition to, not instead of, our own resources, and at this stage to our Red 1 cardiac arrest calls only. Fully trained in basic life support, they will help in providing good quality CPR and care to that patient when they most need it.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Dan Fearn, said: “The scheme is part of a national trial and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is positive and ambitious about continuing our collaboration journey with blue light partners in the county in order to ensure we are doing all that we can to protect and assist the communities of Suffolk when in need.”

“I would like to extend my thanks to all of those involved from both organisations for their hard work and professionalism in making this trail possible.”

Suffolk’s planned co-responding areas are Felixstowe, Haverhill, Lowestoft South, Sudbury and Long Melford.

The trial will be reviewed on an ongoing basis to measure its success and the benefit it has on patient outcomes.
