Suffolk mum’s praise for crew after son injured

A paramedic and student paramedic have been praised by the mum of a Suffolk boy who suffered a serious arm injury.

Louie Evans was playing in his garden in Long Melford earlier this year when he fell off a swing and suffered a broken arm.

The eight-year-old was this week (12^th October) reunited and presented with a certificate by one of the team who treated him.

Paramedic Pete Edwards and Student Paramedic Matt Hammill rushed to his aid after Louie suffered the injury on 2^nd April.

His mum Kelly said: “He was really, really brave and all credit to Matt and Pete for keeping him calm. He was really good and there were hardly any tears.”

Louie was given pain relief at the scene before being taken to West Suffolk Hospital where an x-ray revealed he’d suffered a clean break of his arm. He has made a good recovery after having surgery to insert three pins and five weeks of having his arm in a cast.

Pete said: “The arm looked dislocated, but when we saw the x-ray later that day, we realised how much pain he must have been and the force of the impact. He did really well.”

Louie is back playing football for Long Melford under 9s and said it was “cool” to receive the certificate recognising his bravery and courage.

He will be taking the certificate into school to proudly display it on the ‘wow board’ at Long Melford Primary.
