The NHS in Essex

Yesterday, NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens announced yesterday that Essex would be one of three areas in England where local health and care organisations will work more closely together to make improvements for patients as part of a new ‘Success Regime’. This system wide approach will provide increased support and aims to secure improvement in patient services in the short term, looking at new models of care in the medium term and developing the leadership across the health system locally and embedding more collaborative working.

There have been some misleading reports that it means the ambulance service will be taken over – this is not the case! There will be no organisational or structural changes to our ambulance service in Essex, rather we will be working closely with all partners across Essex to deliver better services for patients.

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh said, “I welcome yesterday’s announcement that will see additional support being given to the health care system in Essex and tackle some of the problems we have faced for a long time such as hospital handover delays and a lack of alternative care pathways. Going forward, this will help us in our work to provide patients with the best possible service.”
