Trust cleaning contract

Due to the appointment of a new cleaning contractor in August, some adjustments were made to cleaning arrangements across the organisation, which the estates team have received various comments and questions about. This article aims to address these and explain how decisions were made.

After benchmarking our cleaning costs against other Trusts, it was found that EEAST was paying significantly more than our colleagues around the country. Most of the tenders put forward in the contracting process suggested a significant reduction in hours, including the previous contractor, so it is likely that all staff transferred in the TUPE process would have had their hours reduced.

The successful contractor, Churchill, is required to clean to the specification given and provided that is met, exactly how it is done cannot be influenced by the Trust.

The Trust will be undertaking regular audits to check standards and identify any locations of poor cleaning. There have been some shortages in cleaning products and we have been working with Churchill to resolve this issue quickly.
