Last week the Trust’s Twitter account came eighth in the top 50 of NHS accounts nationally and in the top four of ambulance services, in the first comprehensive analysis of social media use in the NHS.

The report was the result of nine months’ of research and analysis of social media, and was complied by consultancy firm JB McCrea for NHS Providers, with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust gaining the top spot.

On Monday another social media milestone was achieved, as our 10,000th follower joined us on Twitter, so a huge thank you to all our staff and volunteers for following us so far.

Communications Director Chris Hartley said: "Our focus on digital communications means we are reaching thousands of people every day with public education messages, news about our staff and services, and giving people the chance to air their views, questions and concerns with us directly.

"It is a really important part of our engagement with you - our staff and volunteers – but also our patients and stakeholders and a whole host of people interested in the vital services we provide, so I'm really pleased that the hard work which goes into our digital communications is paying off and thank you all for supporting it.”

The EEAST Twitter account was set up in 2011 and is part of a suite of online channels including facebook, You Tube, Wordpress, Flickr, and the Trust’s website.
