Trust offers clinical mentor qualification for staff

First day of student paramedic course Norwich April 2014

The Trust is looking for clinical staff to become qualified mentors to help guide and support our new student paramedics

You will have seen from Dr Marsh’s recent communication the exciting developments of bringing in more staff into EEAST to help us deliver our service to our patients, and we have made considerable progress in recruiting the 400 students we need; 100 have started their clinical training and the first cohort is already out on the road and being supported by mentors.

But we now need more mentors across the region as new student paramedics join the EEAST team to make sure they get good quality, on-the-job guidance when they leave the classroom.

So what’s in it for me?

The Trust is offering to fully fund a level 5/6 accredited mentorship qualification, carrying a minimum of 15 credits through a higher education institution (university). In addition to this being a formally accredited programme, this type of learning activity will provide good CPD evidence for the HCPC.

If you’d like to apply, please download an application form.

I have already expressed an interest in gaining this mentorship qualification. What do I need to do next?

Following some recent local promotion, over 500 staff have already expressed an interest. This is great and shows that there is a keen interest out there to support and develop students, however only a handful have completed the application. If you have expressed an interest already and are yet to complete your application form, please use the link above to complete and return to jill.page@eastamb.nhs.uk as soon as possible

What if I already hold a mentorship qualification or am working towards one?

For those of you who have not yet informed our people development and education team, please contact Business Partner Jill Page with details of your qualification and achievement/planned achievement date.  We want to hear from any clinician who holds a mentorship qualification, regardless of the level!

I’ve gained a mentorship qualification but never formally mentored anyone?

A refresher day will be held within your locality to provide support and bring staff up-to-date with the Trust’s mentoring requirements.

If you have any queries, or would like to learn more, please speak to your senior locality manager.
