UNISON mediators

The mediation policy has recently been updated to allow staff to request a UNISON mediator. The role of the mediator is to be independent and to assist both parties, and it's hoped having more staffside mediators will encourage mediation to be more widely used to resolve issues at an early stage. This week UNISON representatives completed five days of training in mediation with Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas).

Branch Secretary Fraer said: “The course was challenging and very informative. We practised a range of skills used in mediation, to help deal with conflict in the workplace, and assist parties to rebuild working relationships. The Acas trainers were very supportive, and having a group of eight UNISON representatives training together, will enable us to have a strong team of internal workplace mediators. It’s really appreciated that Anthony Marsh has supported us to build this team.”
