Update from Anthony Marsh - 11th June 2015

Chief Executive Dr Anthony Marsh

This week we have published further details of how we are offering more opportunities to ECAs to progress to EMT this year. As an organisation we have really prioritised staff progression – this was not a progression route at EEAST until I took up post last year – and I would like to thank everyone who has worked behind the scenes to set up, establish and widen this pathway to give more staff the chance to enhance their clinical skills. I know there is a huge demand amongst ECAs for this so I am pleased we have been able to create so many more places on courses this year and plan to do so next year too. I am confident that all ECAs who wish to progress and who pass the entry assessments will be able to progress to EMT in the next 12 months.

On Thursday night we were called to a large-scale incident in Harwich to triage 68 people who had been found on several lorries, which I’m sure you will have read about or seen on the news. I would like to thank all of the staff who were involved, in the control room and on scene, for managing a difficult and lengthy incident – it required a lot of teamwork and I am very pleased at how well you worked together to deliver excellent patient care.

Sadly I have to share the news that following a tender process, the Trust has not been awarded the contract for the acute neonatal transport service (ANTS) for the east of England. I am very disappointed with this decision and we are offering full support to all staff involved. As I have said before, we are best placed to run a service like this and have been doing so very successfully for some time. I would like to thank everyone involved in ANTS for their sheer dedication to supporting some of our most fragile patients, under what can be extremely emotional circumstances – you have made the service proud.

Finally we have also published more details about the clinical briefing in July, which has a really varied and interesting programme and I think anyone who attends will really benefit from a day so focused on clinical excellence. This is exactly the type of thing EEAST should be doing to reflect the importance of best clinical practice and I encourage you to attend if you can.
