Ward moves for Beds mental health

Some improvements are currently being made to the Luton and Central Bedfordshire Mental Health Unit on Calnwood Road, and to wards at the Weller Wing, the mental health inpatient unit for Bedfordshire.

Temporarily, some of the wards have been moved so the work can take place – if you work in the surrounding area please take note in case you’re called there.

Luton & central Bedfordshire mental health unit

• Crystal Ward: The Crystal Ward provides inpatient care to people over 65 with an acute mental illness like depression, anxiety or psychosis. It’s moved to become Poplars Ward, based in Townsend Court, Houghton Regis (LU5 5BF). The phone number is the same – 01582 557233.
• Jade Ward: Jade Ward provides mental health assessment, and it will move to the old Crystal Ward location. This is a permanent move, and it will be known as Crystal Ward going forward.

A psychiatric intensive care unit will be opening in the autumn.

Weller Wing, Bedford Hospital

On 1^st July, Keats Ward moved to Oakley Court. This is a temporary measure (around three months) before the ward will return to the Weller Wing.

The mental health assessment unit has also moved to Oakley court.
