We are a ‘Veteran Aware’ Trust

As part of Armed Forces Week, we wanted to highlight the fantastic news that EEAST has gained formal accreditation from the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) for our commitment to improving care for veterans, reservists and members of the Armed Forces community.

One of seven so far in the East of England, and only the second ambulance trust to receive it, this formal accreditation as a 'Veteran Aware' trust recognises EEAST’s work in identifying and sharing best practice across the NHS as an exemplar of the best standards of care towards the Armed Forces community. 

Terry Hicks, Head of Operations in Norfolk and Waveney, and Armed Forces Champion said, “This is a fantastic achievement for EEAST. This builds on the positive work following our Gold Award in 2018 recognising how we support our Armed Forces community. As a trust we employ a large number of veterans and reservists, across a range of disciplines and directorates, so this also recognises the contributions that they make to deliver the best possible outcomes in their day to day roles. Thanks to everyone who has supported the recruitment, retention, and inductions for our veterans and reservists, and for the senior leadership team in continuing to recognise the important role that these staff have within the trust.”

We shall continue to deliver care in line with the NHS commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, such as ensuring members of the armed forces community are never disadvantaged when receiving care, training staff on veteran-specific needs and supporting the armed forces as an employer.
