Thursday 13th July: Executive message from Dr Simon Walsh, Medical Director

Profile of Dr Simon Walsh, Interim Medical Director

We continue to anticipate a visit from the CQC in the near future and in preparation for this we have created an electronic guide about how each of us can prepare for the visit. It’s a useful resource as it outlines what an inspection entails, how you can make sure you’re ready for it in case the inspectors visit your work area and what they will be looking for.

To support the guide, we are also in the process of producing a ‘year in review’ summary which will highlight the actions we’ve taken to make changes to date. There is also a webinar series available for you on Need to Know which covers the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE) that a CQC visit will focus on, and they are available for you to access at any time.

We have made significant progress since our last inspection and have a clear plan in place for how we continue to develop as we move forward. So thank you to everyone who has been involved in driving these changes and ensuring that we continue to develop as an open, honest, safe and inclusive workplace.

If you have any questions about the CQC; whether that’s around the visit, actions that we’re undertaking to address concerns, or the progress we’ve already made then you can email CQC.Group@eastamb.nhs.uk or speak to your line manager.

Meeting basic needs
For all of us to be able to carry out our job to the best of our ability, we need the right tools and processes to be in place. When this isn’t the case, it can be extremely frustrating, especially if you have raised an issue repeatedly.

The QI team have been holding regular QI café sessions over the past nine months, inviting colleagues to raise any concerns or unresolved issues, and from these discussions they have created the Meeting Basic Needs Programme, which will launch in August and run until mid-October.

The programme will provide you with the opportunity to pick up any unresolved issues around uniform, recruitment, payroll, rostering, IT and access, with the key decision makers for those areas, with the aim of getting the issue resolved, or a fixed date given for a resolution.

A full list of the sessions, each of which will be a combination of face-to-face and virtual, is now available on Need to Know along with dates and locations. Please take a look and pop a date in your diary if there’s something you would like to discuss.

Warm welcome to the Men’s Wellbeing Network
The inaugural meeting of our new Men's Wellbeing Network is taking place virtually next week, on Monday 17th July, which is great news for us as an organisation. Providing spaces such as this for colleagues to talk and share experiences is really important.

The meeting will provide a chance to meet  the committee members and there will also be the opportunity to hear from three speakers covering the topic of mental health, Mind BLMKCHAPS and The Blue Ribbon Foundation.

You can find specific information about the inaugural meeting, and details of how to join here. There is also a dedicated page on East24 which contains more detail about the network and what support they can offer members.

Pulse survey
If you haven’t already taken the time to complete the latest National Quarterly Pulse Survey, then I would urge you to do so please. It only takes a couple of minutes and will really help us shape our thinking in terms of where we should be focusing our efforts over the coming months, whether there are specific areas of concern, or where we can highlight best practice that can be shared more widely. You can access the link to the survey here, it is completely anonymous and will only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Thank You Thursday

This week’s Thank You is for colleagues at the Stevenage hub.

‘I am on the autistic spectrum and the ambulance crew treated me with a lot of respect and kindness, taking into account my extreme anxiety. They were really reassuring.’

Thank you,

Dr Simon Walsh
Medical Director
