Thursday 23rd June - Leadership message from Tom Abell, Chief Executive

Tom Abell NTK

Thank You Week

As I have mentioned in earlier messages we are very grateful for everyone’s hard work in what much have been one of the most challenging times that the NHS has seen and its’ really important that we take time to recognise the hard work that many people are putting into supporting their colleagues and patients.

We had earmarked June as a month to do just that. Monday saw the launch of our EEAST Thank You Week. It’s an opportunity for us all to think about those colleagues who really make a difference to our working day and take the time to let them know how much they’re appreciated.

This week, we will be sharing messages of thanks on Need to Know and our social media channels, so don’t forget to use #ThanksTeamEEAST, which means we can share your post too. You can also send some words, or a video to the Internal Communications team.

The Executive Team, too, have been visiting EEAST sites around the region, meeting colleagues and offering their own personal thanks for everything you do and we’ll be sharing messages from them here on Need to Know explaining where they will be each day.

Living with COVID

Thank you to everyone who joined Monday’s briefing  on ‘Living with COVID’. Some 250 colleagues joined the session. It’s really important that we are all aware of any changes to the guidance so that we can keep our patients and colleagues safe. If you missed it, you can access it here

The Need to Know COVID guidance section will be updated early next week.

Goodbye Dr Tom

Dr Tom Davis, who was acting Chief Executive of EEAST and then went on a period of extended leave has now formally resigned from the organisation. He has passed on the following message:

“I would like to thank all of the colleagues I had the pleasure of working with during my time at EEAST. The last couple of years were certainly some of the most challenging of my career to date, as we navigated the organisation through the pandemic, but the sense of team and camaraderie that came with it was something I was very grateful for and will always remember. I wish all of you the very best for the future and thank you again for the support you continue to show for your colleagues and your patients.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Tom for his commitment to the Trust. I would also like to thank him for, and acknowledge, his hard work and unstinting efforts to help move our Trust forward and help us on our improvement journey.

I am sure you will all join me in wishing him all the very best with his future endeavours.

Fit for the Future

Our Fit for the Future programme continues to move at pace. The latest podcast features Hein Scheffer, Executive Director of Strategy, Culture & Education talking about the Culture workstream and the improvements that make up that workstream including reducing secondments and reducing payroll errors,

Our People Strategy was launched in March as ‘the start of a conversation’ with everyone who works or volunteers at EEAST.  We want to create a working environment that makes EEAST the Trust we all love to work for and you can get involved by taking part in one of our focus groups. Click here for more details.

Manager’s passport training

A quick update for anyone in a managerial role, as we now have five new mandatory training modules within the Managers Passport Training. The five modules are available as virtual, recorded versions, which you can access directly from your Evolve Dashboard. At present, these are one off sessions and must be completed by the end of July. Full details and further links to the training are available here.

Thank you for everything you are doing to keep out patients safe. Please stay cool and hydrated in this hot weather.

Stay safe,

Tom Abell
Chief Executive
