The CQC

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have informed us they are formally starting our core inspection tomorrow (5th April 2022). This is likely to include visits to our three AOCs and focus on Norfolk and Waveney, Cambridgeshire and Mid-South Essex, although the inspection team will of course be able to visit anywhere in the Trust. It is important to note that inspectors may attend the Trust from today onwards.

When the CQC arrive in your area:

Please ensure that the most senior member on-site is introduced to the CQC so that they can understand what is required from the visit.

Check for CQC inspector ID badges. There may also be a specialist advisor who may not have ID and instead have a letter issued by the CQC confirming their identification.

Make sure all visitors have signed into your site visitor book and they follow the Covid-19 guidelines applicable in your area. This includes face mask and social distancing as well as a negative lateral flow test that has been undertaken in the last 72 hours, in line with our current guidance for staff.

If the CQC arrive at a hospital, please let the HALO know. If you are caring for a patient, make sure the patient provides their consent before the CQC approach. Patient safety is always paramount and the CQC fully understand this.

If you speak to an inspector or the CQC visit your station, at the earliest opportunity please contact Lewis Andrews, Head of Quality Improvement & Professional Standards, on 07834 249846 or via the email address below. This is to help us make sure that any follow up requests the CQC may have can be actioned. If the CQC requests any physical evidence, please advise them to contact EEAST’s CQC team – they will have the details.

If you are approached, please be honest and open. It is important to remember that inspectors are finding out about how we care for patients. We have plenty to be proud of, we have work to do, we have challenges but importantly, nothing to hide.

If you are being interviewed by the CQC, there is plenty of information to help you understand what to expect on our CQC Preparedness page on Need to Know. We have also produced our CQC Guide for all our volunteers and staff.

If the CQC request any physical information from you, please advise them we will happily supply the required information, however, could they please email CQC.group@eastamb.nhs.uk to request this.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your manager or email CQC.group@eastamb.nhs.uk
