A Christmas thank you: “I know they were missing out on time with their families, but I’m honestly so grateful they were there”

Ambulance side shot

Whilst families across the country were tucking into turkey and enjoying the festivities, many of you here at EEAST were working across the Christmas period.

Needless to say it was another busy one; we took more than 6,800 emergency 999 calls across Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - up 500 on last year.

It’s always difficult to be away from loved ones at this time of year, but patients all over the region have been immensely thankful for the hours you’ve put into their care; we’ve had many messages from people who have been treated really well by you – including this tweet from legendary 80s singer Alison Moyet:

Below is a snapshot of just one of the many ‘thank you’ messages we’ve had – we hope it will show the difference that you make every day, and how grateful people are for the care you give.

A hundred times over: thank you.

“I hope you had a nice Christmas.

“I wanted to get in touch to pass on my thanks to two paramedics who were called out to my parents’ house at about 4am on Christmas Day.

“I had had quite a severe allergic reaction and was really not very well. My mum called the ambulance and thankfully they were only round the corner at and arrived very quickly.

“They were such professionals, so efficient and very friendly, and came in and got on with trying to find out what was happening. They then put me in a chair which they had to drag over the gravel on my parents’ driveway (which I think was a bit of a nightmare!), before they took me to A&E. They were so calm as well which was really helpful for all of us as I definitely wasn’t, and I don’t think my parents were!

“I just wanted to pass on my thanks – I felt awful that they’d been called out and were working on Christmas Day! I know they were missing out on time with their families, but I’m honestly so grateful they were there as I couldn’t have asked for nicer people to have come out.”
