Did you know the iPad has wide range of features to support vision, physical and motor, hearing and learning needs?

Below are a few examples of available accessibility features.

Vision:

  • Voice Over speaks items on the screen.
  • Zoom magnifies the entire screen.
  • Display and text size gives you control over text size, transparency, contrast and more.
  • Motion helps you reduce the motion of the user interface and turn off auto-play for message effects and video previews.

Physical and monitor:

  • Touch gives you access to ‘assistive touch’ and other touch screen adjustments.
  • Home button allows you to adjust the click speed.
  • Keyboard lets you customise the typing experience when you use an external keyboard.

HEARING

  • Hearing devices allows you to pair iPad compatible devices.
  • Sound recognition listens for certain sounds and will notify you when a specific sound is detected.

To explore the full range, go to Settings > Accessibility.

How can accessibility features improve your working environment?

Vince Watkins, advanced paramedic urgent care from Chelmsford, said: “I am dyslexic so from a personal point of view I think the iPads will make my life a lot easier with such things as text to speak.”

Mark Baxter, from Stevenage Babbage Road, said: “I use One Note for my studies and have found it really useful to change the colour filters as it makes reading with dyslexia so much easier.”

Dark mode and Siren Nova

Dark mode does not work with the Siren Nova app. Instead try Smart Invert or Classic Invert. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display and Text Size > select Smart OR Classic Invert

Watch the video below to discover other iPad accessibility settings that are compatible with the Siren Nova app.
