April National Quarterly Pulse Survey – what you told us

The National Quarterly Pulse surveys measure our progress in improving the lives of all our people at EEAST. The Pulse survey runs three times a year in January, April and July. In October it is replaced by the National NHS staff survey. The surveys give us an indication of how you view working at EEAST and to show where we are making progress.

The results for this quarters survey are displayed in an infographic for you to review. This also shows the previous survey results and also the year-to-date score to show an overall increase or decline.

As you will see in the results, unfortunately there is an overall decline in the scores across all areas. We expect variances each quarter, which is why we also look at the year-to-date scores to see overall impact or decline. It’s really important that as many of you complete the survey as possible so that we have the most accurate view of how you view things at EEAST. Significant increases or decreases impact the scores and in April we saw around 1,000 less responses.

Overall the results demonstrate a general decrease compared to the January survey, however the April Pulse depicts a mostly positive upward trend since last year. For example, the number of people who would recommend EEAST as a place to work is up by 7% from last year.

There has also been an increase of nearly 16% in the number of people who believe they are able to make suggestions to improve the work of their team / department.

The April survey also included a number of questions around your wellbeing. Over 50% of staff surveyed reported that they had had a conversation about their health and wellbeing in the last 3 months. Further to that 62% of those found the conversation supportive.

The wellbeing of our staff is extremely important and it’s essential that conversations take place and support is provided. We are continually reviewing and increasing the support available to staff following your feedback.

With the overall quarterly decrease in results, we do recognise that there is still much more to do to ensure that EEAST is an excellent place to work and receive care. We understand that the current pressures on the health system are impacting on your job satisfaction and the standard of care that we are able to provide.

Thank you to everyone who responded to the April survey, please continue to have your say. The next survey will be out in July, more details will be provided in Need to Know. Every voice counts to provide an accurate picture of where we are and where we can be.
