Behind the scenes in the Control Room

It’s International Control Room Week and to kick things off we’re launching a new short film which gives a behind the scenes look at life as an EEAST call handler.

Shot in our Bedford control room back in July, the film features two of our EEAST call handlers, Nadia Ali and Marilyn Munangatire. The film includes footage of Nadia and Marilyn handling live 999 calls and interviews with them both talking about their roles and what being a call handler involves on a daily basis.

The film will be shared on our public website and social channels, and will be used to help support our recruitment process and give anyone considering applying for a role at EEAST within the control room a clearer idea of what the job involves.

Helen Adams, Head of Recruitment, said: ‘I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to produce this film, and thank you to Nadia and Marilyn for volunteering to share their time and experiences. We often find that people who apply for some of our 999 roles don’t really understand what the job entails, and do not complete the application process as a result. We want to make this clearer for people, explaining to them from the outset what a day is really like for one of our call handlers, and the support and training that’s in place for our people whenever they need it. I hope this film will encourage more people to consider coming to join our team here at EEAST.’
