Could You Be a Safeguarding Champion?

safeguarding

Are you passionate about the safeguarding of our patients and colleagues?

Do you believe you have the skills and experience to recognise, and report concerns around safeguarding issues?

Do you demonstrate the Trust values and behaviours?

Do you have excellent communication skills and can show empathy and compassion for others?

If you answered yes to these questions, then we would love you to consider applying for a role as one of our new Safeguarding Champions. The role is open to everyone, from all service areas and bandings, regardless of whether you are an employee, volunteer, or student.

What will I have to do?

As a Safeguarding Champion you will:

  • Maintain an awareness of the EEAST safeguarding policy and procedures, including the referral processes. The champion will also develop good links with SPOC
  • Act as a resource and point of contact for colleagues who require support and guidance with safeguarding issues. (but not to submit referrals on behalf of the service area.)
  • Share safeguarding information received to colleagues including displaying information in communal areas
  • Maintain safeguarding as a standing agenda item at team meetings/huddles
  • Encourage colleagues to recognise and be aware of trends and themes within their area and communicate to line managers and the safeguarding team.
  • Undertake relevant training and dedicate the equivalent of one full day a month to supporting your colleagues - abstraction arrangements will be supported.

Please note, this is a voluntary role, to be undertaken alongside your existing role. To avoid duplication and increase the reach of safeguarding, we will not be accepting applications from staff who currently hold voluntary positions within the Trust.
