This year’s Essex and Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) Aeromedical conference, which is open to all staff and free to attend, will be held at the Ford Dunton Technical Centre on Wednesday 15th June 2022.

This year’s conference will follow an incident timeline focusing on its key areas. It will start with an insight into both international and domestic terrorism looking at where the threat(s) came from and what they might look like in the future.

The next session will start with a focus on how teams react and perform under pressure. The first case study will look at the complexities and lessons learned from the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in United States history. Following on with the response element of the day, the next presentation will look at the complexities of aviation and getting HEMS teams and/or equipment to the scene with focus on civilian and military aircraft.

The second case study will look at Operation Pitting — a British military operation to evacuate British nationals and eligible Afghans from Afghanistan following the 2021 Taliban offensive. This is the nation’s largest evacuation since World War Two. A suicide bombing took place at Hamid Karzai International Airport killing at least 183 people. Experiences and lessons from this incident will be shared with the wider audience.

The next presentation will focus on protecting the psychological health and wellbeing of responders during and after incidents.

The closing presentation will look at the work of the Disaster Victim Identification Team and the challenging work they undertake. This team was involved in the identification of victims at both the Grenfell tower fire and the recent persons in transit incident in Grays, Essex.

Details of how to reserve tickets can be found on the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance website.
