Dear Colleagues, you may have heard about the Freedom to Speak Up training packages. We are pleased to confirm that this is now available to you through OLM.

What is Freedom to Speak Up Training?

Completing this training will enhance your knowledge on the topic and cover the following objectives;

  • Explain what speaking up is, why it’s important and why its welcome
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how you can speak up and confidentiality.
  • Appreciate the barriers to speaking up which workers may encounter
  • Recall where to go for support.
  • Explain the role of Freedom To Speak Up Guardians and the National Guardians Office

Why is it important that we complete this training?

It’s important that we all feel confident in speaking up so potential harm can be prevented, even when things are going well but could be made even better. We should be able to say something and expect that what we say is listened to and used as an opportunity for learning and improvement.

Which certification should I complete?

We have 3 learning certifications available to suit your role best. Please see below for the options

Speak Up for all staff.

Listen Up for all staff with line/middle management responsibility. Managers should complete both the Speak Up and Listen Up training.

Follow Up - Executive directors, non-executive directors, deputy directors and deputy chiefs. Senior leaders are expected to complete all three modules, Speak Up, Listen Up and Follow Up to ensure they have a full understanding of the speaking up process.

How long will this take me to complete?

The e-learning is expected to take between 30- 90 minutes depending on the package you need to complete but can be completed in bite size sessions saving as you go through the training.

These courses have been set up on OLM as Learning Certifications – for this you will need to self-enrol and complete the course.
