Funeral arrangements for beloved colleague Gary

As we’re sure you’re aware, our beloved colleague and friend Gary Smithen sadly passed away last month.

For those who wish to pay their respects, Gary’s funeral is being held in the West Chapel at Ipswich Crematorium on Friday, 11th March at 1.15pm. Gary’s loved ones have asked for family flowers only, but donations are welcomed for both St. Elizabeth Hospice or the John Levay cancer centre at Ipswich hospital.

It was Gary’s wish for those at the service to dress however they feel comfortable.

Jason Gillingham, Senior Locality Manager, said: “Gary was very highly thought of and perhaps is one of the greatest examples of how a paramedic should be. By the way in which he conducted himself, particularly in the years after being diagnosed with his illness, Gary was ever-dignified, ever-courteous, humorous, and above all he always, always had time for others.

“He will be greatly missed by all, but as we mourn his passing we also remember what a truly great guy he was.

“Our thanks to all our colleagues who have offered to cover shifts so that those who wish to attend may do so. Your help is greatly appreciated.”

If anyone is having difficulty making arrangements to be there, please approach your local management team who will do their best to help.
