Gearing up for 500 mile charity ride in memory of Finnbar

Finnbar 500

A team of pedalling paramedics are busy preparing for a charity challenge and a cause close to their hearts.

Seven cyclists will begin the 500-mile ride from Cork, Ireland, to Hethersett, Norfolk, on 6th September to raise money in memory of Finnbar Cork.

The five-year-old passed away on 5th August following a brave battle after being diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year.

His parents Tristan and Claire want to raise funds and awareness for research into childhood brain tumours and support other families affected.

Six paramedics and an advanced nurse practitioner are supporting the couple by cycling the Finnbar 500 challenge from 6th – 10th September and are hoping to raise £10,000. Four colleagues will make up the support crew. The route is inspired by Saint Finbarr – the patron saint of Cork.

Friends and family will join them for the last 50 miles of the route from Swaffham to Hethersett.

Paramedic Duncan Saunders said: “As soon we found out that Finnbar was poorly we wanted to do something. We want to raise awareness and raise lots of money to support our very dear friends.

“Tristan and Claire really are part of the ambulance/ NNUH family and so many people are doing so many wonderful things.”
