GlucaGen recall: action required

Transparent EEAST crest

A number of GlucaGen Hypokit 1mg (glucagon) batches have been recalled after reports of needles becoming detached from the syringe.

It’s not possible to use a syringe with a detached needle, but the issue would clearly cause a delay in the emergency treatment of severe hypoglycaemia.

Colleagues are asked to check stocks on station and drug bags for the following batch numbers of the NovoNordisk Ltd kit:

Batch number:

  • FS6W939
  • FS6X059
  • FS6X196
  • FS6X590
  • FS6X717
  • FS6X899
  • FS6Y024

The batch number is found on the right side of the packaging, in a blue box.

Should you find one of the affected batches, please return it to a duty locality officer and then restock.

Duty locality officers: please return any affected batches to your supplier, i.e. if you stock via Dunstable stores please return there, but if stocked from a hospital please return there. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has asked trusts that the recall be completed within 24-hours, so your swift action would be appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact medicinemanagement@eastamb.nhs.uk, or call our Head of Medicine Management Anna Zamczyk on 07841 764750.

You can download a copy of the clinical update to display on stations and offices here.
