Heatwave update: current picture

OPS UPDATE

We have experienced increased heat during Sunday which is expected to increase further through Monday and Tuesday.

There are signs of the young and older adults calling for heat related matters and also those with chronic conditions.

We will continue to monitor and advise as we receive information, national updates or through operational experience.

Actions:

  • We have increased our use of surge levels and brought forward actions to manage demand. This has been used in the last week managing around 35% of all calls without an ambulance response.
  • We are also triaging a greater range of calls through ECAT prior to dispatch.
  • Additional water is being delivered from stores for the next few days.
  • The welfare wagons will be out and about supporting those areas with hospital delays.
  • Prolonged incidents will be monitored, and managers deployed to support.
  • Additional welfare visits will continue to other areas to support refreshments.
  • We are also relaxing the uniform policy to allow all staff to use loose fitting tops such as white t-shirts. It is important that ID cards are carried and that any such clothing contains no inappropriate or offensive wording or slogans. This will continue through to 07:00 on Wednesday 20th July.
We will of course continue to update over the coming days. Thank you for your continued support during this period.
