Luton open day raises hundreds for charity

Luton station opened its doors last weekend to give the public a behind the scenes peek at a working ambulance station – and all to raise money for charity.

More than £600 was raised by the south Bedfordshire teams for Keech Hospice, which provides essential care to adults and children who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

Last Saturday’s (25th February) event gave people the chance to find out more about the Trust, meet the staff and explore the ins and outs of an ambulance. There was plenty of fun for all the family with scenarios by police, fire and ambulance and our younger audience learnt about when to call 999. They also had a little tour around one of our vehicles.

Luton Paramedic Louise Stephens, who organised the event, said: “We managed to raise a whopping £687.70 through donations and our bake sale! That’s amazing. Thanks to everyone who gave up their time and energy for the day. It wouldn't have been possible without you all.”

As well as the open day, the group will be swapping their greens and running either the 10k, a half marathon or epic 20-mile race on Sunday, (5th March) at the Milton Keynes festival of running.

The team have been challenged to a competition by Bedfordshire Police to see who can raise the most for their chosen charities – so if you would like to make a donation to our amazing fundraisers (and help them beat the other emergency services!), please visit their JustGiving page.

From all of us at EEAST, good luck guys!
