Make Ready Staff Consultation

Side of RRV with lozenge

Our Make Ready teams are a critical part of our work to deliver for patients, preparing A&E vehicles before they are used to respond to a call by frontline staff and freeing up thousands of hours of patient-facing time.

Today, on average, Make Ready prepares 47% of vehicles in this way. As we improve our service to our patients – and drive down response times - we need to increase the number of vehicles Make Ready fully prepare for Operations crews.

Currently only a few Make Ready hubs operate a night shift, which is when most vehicles are available to them, and so crews are still having to use their shift time to prepare their vehicle more often than we would like.

Earlier this month a proposal about how best to structure the Make Ready service to provide this flexibility was shared with colleagues as part of a consultation, which include discussion about night shifts (and compensation for that), and relief weeks.

We are now in a 90-day consultation period with the Make Ready teams about these proposals which are outlined on this document here.

If accepted, the changes will be implemented in early 2024.

We appreciate that any change can create concerns.
