Early intervention vehicle for Mid-Essex

Early Intervention Vehicle

Monday 15th February sees the launch of the Mid Essex Early Intervention vehicle (MEEIV). Staffed exclusively by Advanced Paramedics (Urgent Care), the vehicle will be available between midday and midnight seven days a week and will be focussed on those patients who do not need to attend A&E but need some intervention in order to be left at home safely.

The MEEIV clinician has a number of advanced assessment and treatment tools available as well as an enhanced formulary and direct access to community and hospital services. It has been commissioned for six months on a trial basis by the Mid Essex CCG, so it will only be available for patients who reside in Mid Essex.

Crews are urged to consider this service when attending patients who do not need immediate A&E attendance. As a general rule, if you are thinking of referring to a GP, have a conversation with the MEEIV clinician first as they may well be able to assist.

The MEEIV can be deployed via AOC and will have a mobile phone, the number of which will be circulated shortly.

Vanessa Ince, Interim General Manager for Mid Essex said: “I am really excited by the launch of the MEEIV. This is the culmination of several months’ hard work within the Trust and the CCG and I am sure that it will prove to be a valuable resource, not only by delivering the right care at the right time and in the right place to our patients but also in reducing demand for our emergency ambulances. I encourage all staff to familiarise themselves with what the resource can offer and make every effort to utilise it to the full.”
