National ambulance uniform

Last year the Trust, along with all other NHS ambulance services, took part in an exercise to find a common ambulance uniform that all ambulance staff nationally would wear.

Everyone agreed that a national crest, with the wording ‘NHS Ambulance Service’, should be used, and that the uniform itself would be an olive green in colour.

The procurement process is still underway so there aren’t any examples to share yet, but once the tender is complete the uniform will be manufactured and samples should be shared with all Trusts for staff to have a look at. At the moment, it’s expected that the workwear will be available to us in the summer of next year.

Creating a national uniform will help to harmonise the ambulance service as a whole, reduce overall uniform costs and build some resilience into the uniform supply chain.

The final uniform will undergo extensive testing, covering everything from rub-tests and colour fastness to fabric strength, to make sure it’s absolutely fit for purpose. Look out for more updates on Need to Know over the coming months!
