In May we confirmed the NHS Staff Council has accepted the pay offer made by the government to those on Agenda for Change terms and conditions in England.

All eligible staff e.g., those directly employed by NHS organisations on AfC terms as of 31 March 2023 (as set out in Annex 1 of the handbook) should receive this payment on their June pay day, which is this Friday, 23rd. You can now access your paperless payslip by logging on to your ESR account. Information on how to do this can be found here.

Financial year             Offer detail

2022/23                       Two one off non-consolidated awards on top of the 2022/23 pay award:

  • non-consolidated award worth 2 per cent
  • one-off NHS backlog bonus worth between £1,250 and £1,600.

Staff can expect to receive the 2022/23 non-consolidated awards in June 2023.

2023/24                       A consolidated award for 2023/24. The award is worth a 5 per cent increase in basic pay for all pay points, with the lowest paid staff seeing their pay brought up to the top of band 2 (a 10.4 per cent pay increase) 

 

As well as increasing pay, the Government is determined to protect your wellbeing and support your development. You provide high-quality, compassionate and safe care to patients around the clock, and they are committed to supporting you while investing in the NHS workforce as a whole.

Therefore, the below commitments have been made as part of that deal:

  • They will work jointly with the NHS Staff Council to look for ways to improve nursing career progression
  • Ensure that the pay setting process and the NHS Pay Review Body (NHSPRB) operates effectively
  • A review of safe staffing guidance in order to develop a national evidence-based policy framework
  • Improving support for newly qualified healthcare registrants
  • Explore the factors driving increasing rates of agency spend in the NHS
  • Agree amendments to Terms & Conditions to ensure that you will not suffer a detriment to your basic pay when you undertake apprenticeships as part of agreed career development
  • Consider how the job evaluation system can be consistently applied
  • With with the Social Partnership Forum to identify ways to tackle and reduce violence against NHS staff
  • Consult on the permanent easement of NHS abatement rules for special class members
  • Consider the application of a cap to redundancy payments of £100,000 and over
