Overtime incentives to assist with hospital handover pressures

 The Trust is offering incentive payments to help manage continued risks from hospital handover delays and staff sickness levels.

Subject to authorisation in advance, the additional payments are available to:

  • Any staff working pre-agreed overtime on an emergency double-staffed ambulance
  • PTS staff providing dedicated urgent vehicle support for A&E
  • Staff working in call handler, dispatch, ECAT and TOC roles

For the shifts listed above of at least 8 hours.

To remain eligible for the additional payments:

  • Only the shifts specified in the table below would attract the additional payments
  • Shifts must be at least 8 hours long and pre-agreed with local managers or planners in advance
  • Overtime will be paid at the applicable AFC rate
  • All part-time, full-time and bank staff are eligible for the additional payments
  • No cancellation of any pre-booked overtime or sickness absence between 7th March 2022 and 13 March 2022 inclusive
  • No other absences other than pre-booked annual leave (unless authorised by a Head of Operations)
  • Local areas will dynamically control the availability of overtime shifts based on their business need and level of risk. This means that specific arrangements or limits may exist in certain areas.

All staff are responsible for ensuring that they comply with the Working Time Directive. Managers will ensure the well-being of all staff undertaking additional duties and ensure that they comply with statutory rest breaks.

High levels of staff sickness puts pressures on other colleagues. To help manage this, we offer a wide range of support from health and well-being to constantly updating IPC guidance. Please support your colleagues so that they can stay as fit and well as possible.
