Paramedic Mark takes on the ultra-marathon

For most of us, running distances like a marathon seems like a daunting task. But Bury paramedic Mark is taking things one step further.

This weekend (Saturday, 16th July), Mark Ransom will be running the massive Samphire 100-mile ultra-marathon. This will involve 27 laps of the Samphire Hoe nature reserve at the base of Dover’s white cliffs.

Mark will be taking on this massive challenge to raise money for new charity, the Ambulance Wish Foundation UK.

The charity aims to give dying people their last wish, whether it is a last trip to the seaside or the chance to be at a loved one’s wedding. Mark is hoping to raise enough money to put towards a purpose-built vehicle for the charity.

Mark said: “Working as a paramedic you come into contact with terminally ill people and when I heard of this organisation I thought ‘what a wonderful idea’.

“Someone in their last days, who is bed bound, can be taken somewhere they’ve always wanted. It’s not just good for the person, it’s for all their family.

“But you have to have a specially equipped ambulance and the trained staff to take them.”

If you would like to make a donation to Mark’s ultra-tough challenge, please pay a visit to his JustGiving page.

From all of us, Mark, the very best of luck for your race!
