Tackling Fraud Together

Fraud

Fraud continues to pose a threat across the NHS as well as to our Trust, writes EEAST Chief Executive Tom Abell.

Since joining the Trust as CEO I have met with Suki Pooni, the Head of Counter Fraud from the providers of the Trust’s counter fraud service, Grant Thornton UK LLP, to discuss the ways in which they support the Trust in fighting fraud. The NHS Counter Fraud Authority estimates that £1.27 billion is lost to the NHS in fraud each year. Together we must do all we can to help tackle this problem.

I believe that it is important that, as your Chief Executive, I reinforce the Trust’s anti-fraud culture and that EEAST will continue to take the most proportionate and correct action against those that commit fraud against the Trust. The Trust has an Anti- Fraud and Bribery fraud policy (Anti-Fraud and Bribery Policy) , and we will continue to tackle any fraud that is committed against the Trust.

14-20 November 2021 is International Fraud Awareness Week; if you suspect fraud then you can help us by reporting it either to me or our Director of Finance, Kevin Smith.

You can also report directly to the Trust’s Local Counter Fraud Specialist, Gareth Robins or to Suki Pooni both of whom work on behalf of the Trust to investigate allegations of fraud and corruption and to help us prevent fraud from occurring in the first place.

There are ways of reporting anonymously to the NHS Counter Fraud Authority either by phone or online and this information will be passed onto Gareth for investigation in confidence. You do not have to provide your name or contact details.
