Trust clinical waste update

Sharps box

Clinical waste is now collected by Trust staff and not by contractors which means there is now no need for a staff member to sign consignment notes.

An audit exercise is being carried out to determine how much waste each site generates and the Trust will then re-order the routes and collection frequencies to best utilise resources. More info on this will follow in NTK.

Once the new routes are implemented, a rolling programme of swapping out bins for clean ones will start. The collectors will clean the tops of the bins, handles and edges on every visit, in compliance with IPC measures.

Please remember to tie off the bags and lock sharps bins correctly and always put a completed ID label on the waste.  The collectors have the right to decline removing waste that is not correctly presented and labelled.

For any waste related issues, please contact your local estates office.
