Update on organisational development

Following last week’s article on what is organisational development, the team would like to update staff on what is specifically happening under this new area of the Trust.

Vision/values implementation

Following the sign-off from the Trust Board, a plan for the implementation of the vision and values has been put together with the communications team, which will include meetings around the region to tell you more about how they will become embedded in the organisation. The Chief Executive and Chair will also be writing to all staff about the importance of the vision and values in changing the culture of the Trust.

EOC

A survey has been sent to all EOC staff to get their views on how the team work in relation to the rest of the Trust and their own working relationships. Following the results of this survey, a series of team building workshops will be scheduled next month that will focus on any issues or ideas raised. This kind of specific development can be organised for any department of the organisation.

Staff survey

An action plan from the 2014 survey is being worked on and a focus group is meeting this month to review and complete certain tasks, before this year’s survey, which will launch in September. The focus group will be taking the actions back to their locality or department, so that specific results are actioned in the appropriate areas.

Appraisals

As advertised in Need to Know last week, updated and refreshed appraisal paperwork is now available on East24. This brings the appraisal paperwork in line with national NHS models and has been made easier to complete from both a management and staff perspective. Presentations have been taking place across the region at team meetings on the new paperwork.

Leadership and management development framework

A specific leadership and management development framework has been designed for the NSC duty locality officers and duty EOC officers, to help support them in their operations role; it’s been designed collaboratively between Jill, from organisational development, and Terry, Senior Locality Manager.  The programme is made up of 12 modules that are specific to the DLO/DEO job descriptions.  Learning will include e-learning, face-to-face study day, webinars, coaching, mentoring and post-module assignments.  A pilot group will be starting in NSC this month, with an Essex pilot planned for September.

Bands 1-4 development

As part of the national ‘Talent for Care strategy’ launched in March across the NHS, a pilot admin learning day has been proposed for all band 1-4 support staff across NSC to support their learning and development. The day will include development sessions on note taking, Excel skills, and health terminology, and will provide an invaluable learning day for staff to share best practice, skills and experience. If successful, it will be rolled out to other areas of the Trust.
