Jurassic Coast Walking Challenge

Kevin Power is completing the Jurassic Coast Challenge

May is National Walking Month, and no-one is taking it more seriously than CFR, Kevin Power, who is taking on the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge to raise money for the Standon and Puckeridge CFR Group he volunteers with in Hertfordshire.

The colossal challenge consists of a continuous 100 km walk over a 24-hour period between Corfe Castle and Bridport on the South Coast.

Kevin, who is taking part with his local fitness group in Buntingford, has been training since January. He said, “I became a volunteer CFR for EEAST during the first lockdown. I wanted to do my bit to help ease the pressure for the NHS and our emergency services. It’s been a really rewarding experience and our CFRs make such a difference to local communities. The money I raise from this challenge will go towards some much-needed resources to support, not just my volunteering role, but our local CFR group covering Standon and Puckeridge. I’ve been training hard over the past few months and am regularly walking between 15 and 25 miles. I’m sure it will be tough, but I’m keen to get on with the challenge now.”

The challenge takes place on the 14th and 15th of May. If you would like to support Kevin, you can donate via his Just Giving page.

Inspired by Kevin?

If you’re inspired by Kevin’s story and want to take on a challenge for National Walking Month, then why not take part in Outrun an Ambulance? The aim of this virtual challenge is to 'outrun' the mileage covered by an EEAST Ambulance on an average shift responding to emergencies. Despite the name, you do not have to run, you can walk, scoot, swim, cycle. Anything you want as long as it is self-propelled. It is your challenge to complete in your way, just choose the activity and time-frame to suit you or your team. You just need to beat the distance by 1 mile! You can find more information here or contact charitablefunds@eastamb.nhs.uk

Funds raised from the Outrun an Ambulance challenge will be used to provide enhanced facilities and wellbeing support for our staff and volunteers.
