Waste Management Changes

There have been changes to EEAST's waste management provides. Find out what's changed and how it might affect you and your team.

General and Recycling:  Veolia will be taking over from Biffa.  They will be responsible for scheduled collections of general waste and recycling, including household batteries.  MICADs should be raised for any missed collections or an excess of waste.  Veolia will not be taking furniture.

Clinical and Offensive Waste: Sharpsmart will be taking over from Stericycle, and will be providing the drivers and vehicles in April 2022.  As above, MICADs should be raised for any missed collections or an excess of waste.

The trust intends to launch an Offensive Waste stream – which is essential items like masks, gloves, and things that are not infectious or soiled.  This will be a huge cost saving for the Trust, as it can be disposed of in a much cleaner, more sustainable way.  More information to come on this in the next few weeks.

Workshop Waste: Safety Kleen will be the new contractor and will be managed workshops, this contractor will deal with:

  • Aerosols,
  • Waste oil and metal
  • Waste vehicle batteries
  • Waste contaminated fuel,
  • Used oil filters, tyre and antifreeze.

Confidential, Uniform and Electronic Waste:  This service will remain Shredstation. No changes to the current process.

Miscellaneous Waste:  This is a new waste stream for EEAST, to be undertaken by a company called Rubbish Clearance Herts.  They will be covering all 6 counties.  Their remit is predominantly ad-hoc collections only, such as for broken furniture and disposal of larger items.  Any jobs should be raised on a MICAD request.

Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor: This will be undertaken by a company called DGSA.  They will be there to advise the Trust on specific issues and carry out regular audits.
